Indeed ‘The Journey is more important than the destination.’
At Gokul, we have been enjoying this journey fort he past 13 years – reaching new destinations, enriching our lives and continuously setting new ones.
During this journey as many of the respected personalities from various fields have connected with us, many of our past students are successful in academics and now pursuing various courses.
Gokul’s journey for disseminating knowledge and cultural importance is now widening and reaching out to various age groups with variety of projects and programs designed specifically to care for various concepts and social issues.
In short Gokul’s journey is now proved as ‘The Gokul way’ for those striving for a mindful prosperous life.
A day at Gokul begins not with a bell, but with music. As children arrive, the soothing sounds of traditional Indian instruments like the flute or tanpura create a peaceful, welcoming space — grounding them in the present moment.
Once together, the day often begins with spontaneous conversations — about a recent eclipse, a local festival, or a simple observation like a bird’s nest outside the window. These dialogues are seeds. For instance, a chat about rain might spark an inquiry into the water cycle, leading to weather logs and rainwater harvesting models.
From here, learning takes many paths — sometimes as a group, sometimes individually. A child who is curious about plants might choose to research the parts of a flower, while another might independently measure the growth of seeds they’ve planted. The focus is not on textbooks but on real-world exploration and hands-on experiences.
Activities emerge from this curiosity: a visit to the local farm to learn about soil types, constructing a simple pulley system to understand mechanics, or exploring the world of insects at the garden. These aren’t planned lessons but natural learning opportunities that unfold through interest and inquiry.
Gokul days are full of expression. Children take part in debates on forest conservation, write poems about rivers, and stitch cloth bags to learn about sustainability, or co-create plays on historical events. One day they might paint Warli art, the next, build birdhouses for the garden.
Despite the absence of a fixed syllabus, children engage in rich, interconnected learning. Whether it’s designing a handmade puppet, contributing for the school magazine, or reading a classic together and staging a scene from it — their time is joyfully as well as meaningfully spent.
